Emily Ensign
MS, Marriage and Family Therapist

Emily Ensign is a Master's Level Marriage and Family Therapist, working with couples, families, adolescents, and adults. Emily's clinical interests include relationship distress, pre-marital counseling, family conflict, anxiety, depression, anger, spiritual development, and faith crisis.

Through her training and experience with Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples, Individuals, and Families, Emily seeks to work with clients to heal areas of pain that occur in the face of traumatic events or damaged relationships.  She endeavors to meet all clients in their current situation with compassion and warmth throughout the therapy process. Her hope for therapy is to provide a sense of stabilization, safety, and confidence while also working to nurture deep and long-lasting renewal through attachment bonds.

Before moving to East TN, Emily earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State University with specializations in Spanish and English as a Second Language (ESL). After teaching in a bilingual school through Teach For America – Milwaukee, she returned to her home state of Iowa. There, she spent four years teaching ESL and Spanish in a middle school, particularly working with refugee and immigrant families.

After feeling the pull away from the educational system to work more directly with marriages and families, Emily began pursuing her Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University. Her husband's graduate studies brought their family to beautiful East Tennessee – a move they plan to make permanent! She concluded her Master's degree program with an internship at Healing Hearts Counseling in Knoxville, East Tennessee’s premier center for training Marriage counselors. A diligent student, driven to master her craft, Emily has already completed all ICEEFT trainings for EFT.

Beyond the counseling office, Emily enjoys cooking, baking, homesteading/gardening with her husband, goofing off with her crazy kids, playing the trumpet, and being involved with her faith community in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Emily is currently working towards full state licensure as an LMFT under supervision of Connie Crossley, LMFT (Tennessee/851).
